HostableHostable

Minecraft

Vanilla, Paper, Fabric and Modrinth modpacks.

Create

sudo hostable create minecraft "Friends SMP" --server-type fabric --version 1.20.4 --memory-mb 4096 --accept-license
OptionValues
--server-typevanilla, paper, fabric
--versionA Minecraft version such as 1.20.4; omit for the latest release (vanilla).
--memory-mbJava heap. Leave 1-2 GB for the OS.

The TUI also offers Modrinth search for mods and modpacks (installed with mrpack-install).

What gets set up:

  • server.jar (or the Fabric/Paper launcher), eula.txt, server.properties, start.sh.
  • RCON on. Hostable uses it for the console, saves before backups and stops, and counting players. It connects over 127.0.0.1 and the port is never opened in the firewall.
  • A systemd unit with a 120 second stop timeout, so the world is saved on systemctl stop.
  • The game port, 25565/tcp or the next free one.

NOTE

Online mode is on by default. For offline-mode servers (cracked clients), add the SkinRestorer mod, otherwise skins do not load.

Ports

Hostable picks 25565, and if something already uses it (or another Hostable server has it), the next free port. hostable list shows the result.

Console

sudo hostable console friends-smp list
sudo hostable console friends-smp "say Restarting in 5 minutes"
sudo hostable console friends-smp whitelist add Steve

Restarting safely

sudo hostable restart friends-smp

If anyone is online, Hostable refuses and tells you how many. Use --force to restart anyway. Otherwise it runs save-all, then restarts.

What a backup contains

The world, server.properties, ops.json, whitelist.json, bans, config/, defaultconfigs/ and Hostable's mod manifest. Mod jars are not included: they can be downloaded again.
