HostableHostable

Introduction

Install and run game servers on your own VPS with one command.

Hostable

Hostable installs and runs game servers on a cheap VPS, so a group of friends can host their own world without learning systemd, firewalls, SteamCMD or Java flags.

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/blankeos/hostable/main/install.sh | sh
sudo hostable

You get:

  • A terminal app (TUI) to create, start, stop, back up and watch servers.
  • Scriptable commands for the same things: hostable restart my-server, hostable update palworld.
  • A small web admin (off by default) so friends with the password can start and stop a server from a phone.

Supported games

MinecraftVanilla, Paper, Fabric, Modrinth modpacksRCONPlayers are counted before restarts.
PalworldSteamCMDRCONSeeds the config, flags a co-op WorldOption.sav override.
ARK: Survival EvolvedSteamCMDRCONOne ARK server per machine.

How it works

Hostable is a small daemon (hostabled) plus a terminal app (hostable). The daemon runs as root and does the privileged work: installing packages, writing systemd units, opening firewall ports. Game servers run as a normal user. You talk to the daemon from the same machine; it never accepts control from the internet unless you turn the web admin on.

NOTE

Hostable needs Debian or Ubuntu with systemd. It manages plain files and services, there is no Docker, and your game files stay in normal folders you can edit by hand.

What it does for you

  • Installs dependencies (Java, SteamCMD, 32-bit libraries) and opens only the ports a game needs.
  • Picks free ports when you run two servers of the same game.
  • Warns when a game will not fit in RAM, and can create swap.
  • Refuses to restart or update a server while players are online.
  • Backs up before every update.
  • Shows what is eating your disk, and trims logs safely.
