HostableHostable

Backups

Manual backups with local retention and optional S3-compatible storage.

sudo hostable backup friends-smp

Archives are written to /srv/hostable/backups/<server>/ as .tar.zst with a manifest and SHA-256.

Consistency

Hostable asks the game to save first (save-all for Minecraft, Save for Palworld) so the copy is not mid-write. It does not stop the server. If the console is unreachable, the backup still runs and says so in its warnings.

What is included

GameIncluded
Minecraftworld, server.properties, ops/whitelist/bans, config, mod manifest
PalworldPal/Saved (worlds, players, config) without logs
ARKShooterGame/Saved

Symlinks inside a server folder are never followed, so a link cannot pull files from elsewhere into a backup.

Retention and S3

Keep the last N backups locally in Settings. You can also upload to any S3-compatible bucket (AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2). Put the keys in /etc/hostable/secrets.env:

/etc/hostable/secrets.env
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=...
AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=...

Restore

Stop the server, then extract the archive over the server folder as the server's user:

sudo systemctl stop hostable-friends-smp
sudo -u hostable tar --zstd -xf /srv/hostable/backups/friends-smp/friends-smp-<timestamp>.tar.zst -C /srv/hostable/servers/friends-smp
sudo systemctl start hostable-friends-smp
