Palworld
A Palworld dedicated server through SteamCMD, with a co-op save import path.
Requirements
Pocketpair recommends 16 GB RAM and about 12 GB of disk. 8 GB works for a few players if you add swap. Run hostable preflight palworld to see what your VPS can do.
Create
sudo hostable create palworld "Friends Pals" --accept-license --join-password hunter2hunter2Hostable will:
Install SteamCMD
Enables Debian contrib/non-free, adds the 32-bit architecture and installs steamcmd.
Download the server
App 2394010 through /usr/games/steamcmd, run as the hostable user.
Seed the config
Palworld leaves PalWorldSettings.ini empty on first boot, which silently runs every setting at its default. Hostable copies DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini first, then sets the name, passwords, player limit and ports.
Open one port
8211/udp, or the next free UDP port. The RCON port stays closed to the internet.
Settings Hostable manages: ServerName, ServerPassword (the join password), AdminPassword, ServerPlayerMaxNum (default 8), PublicPort, RCONEnabled, RCONPort.
Change a setting
Edit Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini from the TUI config editor, or by hand, then restart.
WARNING
If you imported a co-op save, a WorldOption.sav file in the world folder overrides PalWorldSettings.ini. Changing BaseCampWorkerMaxNum in the INI will appear to do nothing. Run hostable doctor <server>: it lists this file. Move it aside (do not delete it) and restart:
sudo -u hostable mv Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<WORLD_ID>/WorldOption.sav{,.bak}Bring a co-op save
Co-op saves belong to the host character 000...001. To resume on a dedicated server you convert that player id to the host's Steam-based id with a community save tool, then copy the converted world into Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<WORLD_ID>/.
- Back up both the original co-op folder and the server's
Pal/Saved. - Only the host needs converting. Other Steam players already use their normal ids.
- Stop the server, copy the converted folder in, make it owned by the server user, start it.
- Have everyone join and check characters, bases and Pals before deleting any backup.
Updating
sudo hostable update friends-palsIt stops the server (refusing if players are online), takes a backup, runs app_update 2394010 validate, starts it again, and prints the Steam build before and after. See Updating a server.
TIP
Clients must match the server version. If friends cannot join after a game patch, update the server.
